About us
Welcome to our website!
The Chair of Data Science in Economics at the Faculty of Economics at Ruhr University Bochum works on analyses with structured and unstructured data sets, Big Data, Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, as well as on research questions on Digital Transformation, Innovation, Regional, Labour and International Economics and other fields of application in Economics.
In research and in the courses taught at the Chair, we are programming in Python, R, Stata, among others.

Exam for "Machine Learning and Programming in Python"
There will be an exam for the lecture on "Machine Learning and Programming in Python" (Master/ PhD) on 20.2.2025 from 10:00 to 12:00 in HGD 30 ("Nachschreibtermin"). Students who have been formally accepted as participants of this course in previous semesters may take part in this exam, too. Please consider and follow the registration deadlines in FlexNow.

Bachelor & Master theses in the summer term 2025
The Chair of Data Science in Economics offers the opportunity to write a Bachelor or Master thesis in the summer term 2025.
If you are interested in writing a Bachelor thesis at the chair, please select us as your first preference in the WiWi-BOS system. It is recommended to have attended at least one of our courses (lecture or seminar). Please note the deadlines for the registration process. Further information can be found on the homepage of the Prüfungsamt. If you have been accepted for a Bachelor thesis at our chair, please contact us within the deadlines set by the Prüfungsamt and let us know which topic/s you would be interested in. You are also welcome to send us your own topic suggestions.
For Master theses, please contact us directly via email at ls-dsecon@rub.de. You can let us know which topic/s you would be interested in. You are also welcome to send us your own topic suggestions. It is recommended to have attended at least one of our courses (lecture or seminar).
