Economics of Migration
Whether immigration can solve the problems connected to the demographic change, the problem of the economic and social integration of immigrants or whether the EU-enlargement will lead to dramatic East-West migration flows are very important topics on the political agenda in almost all developed countries and source of heated public debates. This module aims to introduce the participants to the economics of migration. In a basic lecture, the participants are introduced to the basic theoretical and empirical concepts of the three main topics of the economics of migration: (i) the migration decision; (ii) the economic and social integration of migrants; and (iii) the economic effects of migration on natives. The students will then be assigned to present major publications on the economics of migration in order to deepen the knowledge obtained through the lecture.
