(WiSe) Climate Change and Sustainable Development
Climate change is becoming a major obstacle for development, particularly for individuals in the Global South. This seminar deals with the socio-economic impacts of climate change and how these interfere with sustainable development. The thematic focus is on the impacts of climate change on welfare, assets, food consumption, child health, education, life satisfaction, and migration. Key concepts, such as the Sustainable Development Goals and the measurement of poverty and well-being, will be discussed and how these are applied in empirical economic research. Students will read and discuss selected peer-reviewed articles, mostly focusing on countries in the Global South, that analyze micro data with econometric methods. The examination consists of a presentation in class and a written term paper.
